Who do you want to model your life after?
Emulate those who reflect the person you want to become.
When your life feels out of alignment with your values, ask yourself:
🤔 Who do I want to model my life after?
Emulating positive role models helps you grow and become a better version of yourself. Intentionally choose people whose values, choices, and behavior inspire you. Reflect carefully, because these characteristics shape your direction, outcomes, relationships, and overall well-being. Without conscious choice, you risk adopting mindsets and habits that don’t align with the person you want to become.
Start by naming the role models you want to emulate in different areas of your life. These might include family members, colleagues, public figures like Nelson Mandela or Marie Curie, or fictional characters like Mulan or Samwise Gamgee. Choose no more than three to keep things manageable. No one is perfect, and different role models can inspire different qualities in you.
Use this list to identify the specific qualities you most admire in each role model. Focus on the qualities that matter most to your growth. This might be a family member’s kindness, a colleague’s calm under pressure, or a fictional hero’s courage. Recognizing these qualities helps clarify the person you want to become. Avoid idealizing your role models. Instead, learn from their strengths and adapt those qualities in a way that fits you.
A role model is like a lighthouse or a compass, providing a steady point to guide you and a clear direction to follow.
Once you identify the qualities you want to develop, turn them into concrete actions and practice consistently. For example, if calm decision-making matters, pause before reacting and take a few deep breaths to steady your mind. If persistence is key, set small goals and keep moving forward, even when progress feels slow. Keep these actions visible by writing them down or setting reminders. Reflect regularly and adjust as you learn what drives your growth. Growth is a continuous process, and it’s natural for your role models and the qualities you value to evolve over time.
Your role models shape who you become. Choose them wisely.
