What would your desired kind of person do?

Align your actions with the person you want to become.

To act in ways that reflect the identity you’re building, pause when facing a choice and ask yourself:

🤔 What would my desired kind of person do?

Becoming the desired version of you involves behavior change. Each small decision shapes whether you move toward or away from that identity. The challenge is making these moments add up in the right direction. Maybe you’re wondering whether to skip your workout, eat that snack, or stay up a little longer instead of going to sleep. Asking yourself what your desired kind of person would do in these moments brings clarity to your choices. It connects your actions to the person you want to become, turning difficult decisions into natural steps along your path. The more small wins you gather, the clearer the proof becomes that you are truly becoming that kind of person.

For example, if you want to be the kind of person who eats healthy, ask yourself: What would a healthy eater do? Would they choose cheesecake or fresh fruit for dessert? Would their drink be a sugary soda or water? Then make the choice that fits a healthy eater. Right after, take a moment to celebrate your success, whether by giving yourself a mental high-five, quietly saying “Well done,” or in another way that feels right to you. Similarly, you can ask yourself: What would a disciplined person do? What would a committed exerciser do? What would a calm and patient person do?

Using this question is like having a GPS for your life; it helps you navigate daily choices and stay on the best path toward becoming the person you want to be.

Over time, as these behaviors become habits, your actions will start to feel automatic; no longer requiring the question to guide you. Yet growth is ongoing, and new habits may call for fresh questions to keep you on track. You can also use this approach by substituting role models or archetypes in your question. Asking, “What would a wise mentor do?” or “What would Socrates do?” lets you draw on the qualities you admire in others, using them as valuable guides along your journey.

Make choices that reflect your values by consistently asking:

🤔 What would my desired kind of person do?
